Introduction to Electrical Engineering
Electrical engineering is a very attractive discipline. The first attraction point is that it penetrates deeply into our daily lives. For example, can you imagine a world without electricity and electronic devices? Our lives would be boring and uncomfortable without smartphones, computers, game consoles, etc. Isn't it amazing that you can reach anyone in the world at anytime and anywhere by simply pressing a few numbers on your phone thanks to modern communication technologies? The advance of electrical engineering makes our lives more exciting, and numerous electrical engineers have contributed to the realization of such technologies. Our society has increasing demands on talented electrical engineers as technologies become more complicated and deeply integrated into our lives. The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at the Yonsei University has outstanding faculty that leads technology development and brings world-class research experiences into classrooms for students to ensure that our graduates are well-prepared to become engineering leaders.
The second attraction point of electrical engineering is that it covers a wide range of technologies. For instance, professors of electrical engineering at Yonsei University carry on research activities in a variety of research areas such as electric power engineering, semiconductors devices and circuits, communications, signal processing, computer technology, and bio-medical technology. The reason for this variety is that development of electrical technologies have had a huge impact on various applications and those applications have continuously demands further development in electrical technologies for them. It is interesting to note that these various technologies form a close relationship within the framework of electrical engineering so that even college level of electrical and electron engineering education is very useful for many diverse applications. For high school students who have not yet decided their majors in college, majoring in electrical engineering will offer a core engineering education that is commonly required in wide engineering fields in the future.
