세미나 제목 : High-speed Si modulators on Si photonics platform

The continuous increase in bandwidth requirements for short link distances in datacenters or high-performance processors requires the lowering of power consumption to reduce operating costs. Optical interconnects can provide high bandwidth and are therefore becoming more and more attractive for short-reach interconnect applications. In order to become economically viable for optical interconnects, the operational and the production costs need to be reduced below that of the electrical interconnects. The technology of choice would provide the high bandwidths required at low operating energy. Silicon photonics technology can potentially reduce the fabrication cost, by re-using existing CMOS fabrication infrastructure while delivering high volumes at high yield.  In this talk, active components developed in IMEC’s silicon photonics platform that enable 50 Gb/s non-return-to-zero (NRZ) operation using CMOS compatible voltages will be presented.
