세미나 제목 : Si-integrated on-chip laser for optical interconnects, fundamental physics studies, and bio-imaging

In chip-level optical interconnects and large datacenter applications, high-performing light emitter is a key element. Firstly, several state-of-the-art light emitter approaches are reviewed for theses applications. In this context, our on-chip laser structure will be introduced, which has a potential to solve some of challenges in other approaches. Our on-chip laser structure integrates a III-V semiconductor onto a SOI wafer and employs nano structures to manipulate the photonic properties of the laser cavity. A record-high speed as well as modulation current efficient factor (MCEF) have been demonstrated. The physical mechanism leading to the demonstrated properties and device fabrication processes will be reviewed. In addition, possibilities of using this on-chip laser platform for fundamental physics studies as well as bio-imaging applications will be discussed.
