Title : What Will be Beyond 5G URLLC?
Abstract:
Ultra-reliable and low-latency communication (URLLC) of the fifth generation (5G) cellular systems, dubbed 5G URLLC, has striven to address stringent reliability and latency targets. Unfortunately, 5G URLLC is about to witness new breeds of applications requiring extremely strict reliability and latency targets while demanding high scalability in terms of data rates and user density (e.g., vision-based telesurgery, autonomous drone fleet, etc.). To put these challenges in perspective, this talk speaks about the fundamental limitations of 5G URLLC, and puts forward a new research agenda for the next generation of URLLC, coined eXtreme URLLC (xURLLC). The three key new concepts of xURLLC are: (1) leveraging machine learning (ML) aided predictions, (2) exploiting both radio frequency (RF) and non-RF modalities, and (3) co-designing communication and control. Towards enabling xURLLC, major challenges and research opportunities are outlined along with exemplary use cases.
