School Introduction

The School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering was founded in 2002 by merging three separate departments : the Department of Electrical Engineering, the Department of Electronic Engineering, and the Department of Microwave Engineering. The School’s history dates back to 1950 when the Department of Electrical Engineering in the College of Science and Engineering was first founded. The Department of Electronic Engineering was founded in 1969, and the Department of Microwave Engineering followed in 2002. Over the past 70 years, our School has provided the most prominent research and education programs at Yonsei University. Rankings and statistics show that the research and education programs of our School have continued to expand and improve in pursuit of our educational objectives.

 

1950 - 1999
1999 Mar. Graduate programs from the Departments of Electrical, Electronic, and Microwave Engineering were merged into a single program offered by the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
1997 Oct. The Information Communication Specialty Promotion Business was established.
Aug. The Engineering Hall #3 was constructed to accommodate the Department of Microwave Engineering.
Mar. The Departments of Electrical, Electronic and Microwave Engineering were merged into the Department of Electrical Engineering
1996 Oct. The High-Technology Laboratory Equipment Funding was awarded for the College of Science and Engineering. 
1995 Nov. Seven independent departments in the College of Engineering were merged into the School of Mechanical and Electronic Engineering.
1994 Mar. The Signal Processing Laboratory was established (as an inter-university research institute).
1993   The Radio Communication Research Institute was established.
1992   The Electronic Information Communication Research Institute, the Medical Equipment Technology Research Institute, and the Automation Technology Research Institute were established.
Jan. The Department of Microwave Engineering was established.
1991   Major experimental equipments were set up with the IBRD funding.
1989   The ASIC Design Institute was established as an inter-university research institute
1980 Nov. The Engineering Hall #2 was constructed.  
1977 Mar. The School of Engineering in the College of Science was formed into the College of Engineering
1972   The Doctoral Degree Program was offered by the Department of Electronic Engineering.
1971 Dec. The Engineering Hall #1 was constructed to accommodate the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
1970   The Master's Degree Program was offered by the Department of Electronic Engineering.
1969 Feb. The Department of Electronic Engineering was established.
1962 Feb. The College of Science and Engineering was divided into the School of Engineering and the School of Science.
1961 Jan. The Doctoral Degree Program was initiated in the Department of Electrical Engineering.
1954 Feb. The Master's Degree Program was initiated in the Department of Electrical Engineering.
