Dr. Woojun Choi, who has been with a team of Prof. Youngcheol Chae, has developed a high-precision CMOS frequency reference and has been included in the IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits (JSSC). This chip demonstrated that the CMOS frequency reference has frequency stability of 200 ppm in the operating temperature range, thus targeting wireless sensor nodes such as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE). Such frequency stability often requires quartz or MEMS, but this work can only be achieved with CMOS processes, which is a significant advance.
