1. Don't do a Ph.D unless you are passionate about research and determined to pursue a research career. Your attitude and goal will make the difference between a fulfilling learning process and 4-5 years of suffering. After all, a Ph.D. degree is not the only ticket to success.

  2. I am searching for students with the following characteristics (or its subset)

    1. Persistent, curious and enthusiastic in scientific discovery

    2. Strong mathematical background. Example proofs include high scores in theoretic courses and publications in IEEE journals and conferences.

    3. “A drive to be a leader in our field, i.e. a professor, leading researcher, entrepreneur, industry executive, etc. If your goal is simply to "get a job" after graduating, I suggest getting an MS.” - Prof. Jeff Andrews

    4. Good oral and written communication skills in English. Your research results are almost useless unless they can be effectively communicated to other researchers.

  3. A primary objective of my career is to help any aspirant student in my group to achieve his/her goals.

  4. I am annoyed by the email a student broadcasts to 100 professors. Show me a little sincerity by explaining why you want to work with me.

  5. If you are interested in working with me, please email me your resume with information on GPA, publications and awards.
