Title : Biosensor & its Sensivitity Enhancement toward Commercializations

Abstract:

Paper-based diagnostic devices (e.g. lateral flow assays; LFA) have several advantages, such as portable diagnostic systems owing to their low costs and to use. However, because of their low sensitivity and limitation of detection (LOD) for biomolecule sensing, these devices have several limitations in applications for real-field diagnosis. To solve the problems, the paper-based biosensors are undergoing various studies, however, the sensitivity and limitation of detection (LOD) remain major issues that are to be addressed.

In this study, to address the problems, we designed paper-based preconcentrator and investigated the enhanced sensitivity and LOD using a commercial β-hCG (beta-human chorionic gonadotropin) LFA. We performed low-power experiments on battery operation utilizing a simple 9 V battery operation with a low power consumption of approximately 81 μW. We acquire a 25-fold preconcentration factor, demonstrating a sensitivity enhancement in the colorimetric lateral flow assay. Also, we’ll talk the recent experimental studies with sample preparation function for PADs, especially for exosome, virus and biomolecule detections.
