세미나 제목 : Emerging Research Directions in Electric Power Systems - Part II

The current power grid is undergoing drastic changes and upgrades with the ongoing smart grid initiative. For example, more intermittent renewable energy resources are being integrated into the power grid; and various innovative smart grid technologies are being developed and deployed, including intelligent sensors, advanced metering infrastructure, novel power electronic devices, new operating strategies, and big data analytics. Some of the emerging technologies are instrumental to enabling various desired functionalities of the envisioned smart grid, but they also significantly increase the complexity and uncertainty of the modern power system. As a result, research activities relating to power system reliability, cyber-physical security, and resiliency are faced with new challenges and opportunities. Meanwhile, the interdependency between the power system and other national critical infrastructures such as gas, water/wastewater, and transportation systems is becoming tighter than ever. Focusing on the risk assessment aspect, this talk will discuss the emerging new research topics of contemporary power systems by accounting for various emerging issues in the smart grid context.
