-세미나 제목 : Motor Rehabilitation and Brain Plasticity via Rehabilitation Robotics

-발표초록 :

For the past 30 years, National Rehabilitation Center (NRC) has been a leading institute to provide medical rehabilitation services and research & development on rehabilitation robots and assistive technology for the people with disabilities as a governmental institute under ministry of Health & Welfare. In this lecture, the founding concepts, achievements and future directions of two government programs on rehabilitation robotics that is executed by NRC Research Institute, (1) Translational Research Program on Rehabilitation Robotics and (2) Medical & Rehabilitation Robot Pilot Supply Program, will be briefly introduced why these programs are influential in R&D and industries in Korea.

Rehabilitation robotics has been assisted many manual therapeutic procedures in clinical interventions for motor rehabilitation. For examples, engineers and clinicians have collaborated to develop diagnostic, therapeutic, and preventive rehabilitation robotics. However, the effectiveness of rehabilitation robotics is currently controversial and scientists have tried to validate why clinical intervention using rehabilitation robotics is useful and efficient. In this lecture, a couple of examples of robotic devices that was previously developed in the field of physical medicine & Rehabilitation are introduced. Then we shall discuss the kinematic and dynamic characteristics of rehabilitation robotics or robotic devices for clinical applications and understand why brain imaging is the essential medium in the rehabilitation medicine as a validation of clinical interventions. Finally, we also discuss various rehabilitation robotics and brain plasticity on disabilities in the elderly how to make difference from previous research and to design a novel rehabilitation robotics.
