제목 : Energy Harvesting for Autonomous Wireless Sensors and RFIDs

초록 : Energy harvesting technologies provide a foundation, an enabling technology towards the realization of ‘zero-power’wireless sensors and implementing the Internet-of-Things (IoT) and machine-to-machine (M2M) communication. The state-of-the-art in commonly used energy harvesting technologies such as solar, piezoelectric, thermal and electromagnetic is presented. Design challenges are discussed related to harvester circuit topologies as well as to the use of novel technologies and materials, such as paper, textiles, and inkjet printing fabrication. Interest in electromagnetic energy harvesting is further attributed to the capability for powering of wireless devices by intentional radiation known as wireless power transmission (WPT). Wireless power transfer exploring the transmission of multi-sine, digitally modulated and chaotic signals and their effect on RF-DC conversion efficiency is discussed. Integration examples of different harvesting circuits are shown, including the development of low profile and conformal solar antennas and rectennas, as well as thermoelectric generators and antennas. Finally, application examples of the above concepts in wirelessly powered sensors and RFID systems are shown.
