¨ç Regular admission is conducted two times per year.
¨è Students are accepted by document evaluation and oral examination. In the document evaluation research
    plan and undergraduate courses are evaluated. In the oral examination, the student's knowledge in     theirfield is evaluated.
¨é Frequent admission procedures are as follows.

 

¨ç The student affair committee holds an orientation session for admitted students to provide information on
    how to choose an advisor.
¨è Admitted students should visit professors of the their chosen field within the first week after the orientation
    and decide on their advisors. However, there are limits to the number of students each advisor can take
    due to space and facility limitation.??
¨é When there is a mutual agreement between a professor and a student, the student must submit Advisor Ap
    pointment Application Form to the department office, which both the professor and the student should sign.
¨ê The student affair committee can arbitrate the advisor appointment procedure if necessary.
  * It is recommended for students to meet professors of the their chosen fields in advance.

- Same as the regular admittance process.

- This program is operated with research institutions related to the department.
  Students must meet the study-research requirement before application.

 

- This is a joint program operated with industry and the department.

 

- Students may transfer from other domestic or oversea graduate schools.

 

- Soldiers in Korean Army (or other military forms) may apply for this special program

 

- In case of non-regular admission, the student may select an advisor after meeting with professors.
- In case of transferring students, the student affair committee may supervise the advisor appointment   procedure.

 

The department has not decided whether the integrated program will be incorporated.

# The admission procedure could be changed without any notice in advance. In addition, a TOEFL score is required. If TOEFL is not available, students must take a TOEFL exam when applying. However, the score is not used in admission. However, the student should pass the minimum TOEFL score in order to meet graduation requirement.

 
   1. Summary of the 5-Year Undergraduate-Graduate Joint Program
      [Objective]

      (1) The Undergraduate-Graduate Joint Program was created to recruit more of the outstanding
           undergraduate students to continue studies in the Graduate Program.
      (2) Based on the current policies and orders of the Higher Education Laws, the Undergraduate-Graduate
           Joint Program is executed and serves as an incentive to promote continuing studies in the Graduate
           School.
      (3) As the undergraduate student is assigned a dedicated Advisor in the early stage, he/she will be able to
           get closer with advanced research, which is expected to improve the overall quality of research.

      [Execution Process]
      (1) The joint program starts from the Spring semester of 2004. (Begins during the vacation periods in
           February and August.)
      (2) Only students that have a GPA of 3.3/4.3 (3.0/4.0) after completing their second year of the
           undergraduate program can be admitted into the same department/school Undergraduate-Graduate
           Joint Program.
      ¡Ø However, for qualified students, only 1 application can be submitted after completion of the 4th semester,
           where general transfer students, undergraduate program transfer students, dual major students, and
           students that have received a probationary status can not apply.
      (3) The students that have been granted admission into the Undergraduate-Graduate Joint Program will
           automatically be admitted in to the Graduate College, in which they can obtain a Masters degree or can
           apply for the Masters-Ph.D. Joint Program.
              ¨ç Bachelors-Masters Joint Program
                  ; Undergraduate 3.5 years + Graduate 1.5 years = Can obtain a Bachelors & Masters Degree
                    in a total of 5 years.
              ¨è Bachelors-Masters Joint Program
                  ; Undergraduate 3.5 years + Graduate Joint Program = Can obtain a Bachelors & Ph.D. Degree
      (4) For students that have entered the graduate program by completing the Scholarship Undergraduate-
           Graduate Joint Program, a ¡®Joint Program Full Scholarship¡¯ can be awarded considering the student
           grades and the department the student is enrolled in. Each semester this scholarship can be given
           to a maximum of 300 students, where the maximum awarding period is 3 semesters for Masters
           students and 5 semesters for students in the Masters-Ph.D. Joint Program.

      (5) Students that have been granted admission to the 5 Year Undergraduate-Graduate Joint Program will
           receive additional points when applying for the Study Abroad Program of the International Education
           Exchange Division.

      (6) Students that enroll in the Undergraduate-Graduate Joint Program can enroll for a maximum of 21 credits,
           where each semester a GPA of 3.3/4.3 (3.0/4.0) or higher must be maintained.
      (7) Students of the Undergraduate-Graduate Joint Program must complete the 126 credit hour requirement
           by the 7th semester to qualify for undergraduate graduation, and can enroll in graduate program
           courses. By the end of the 7th semester, the student should apply for undergraduate graduation and
           should make a formal application for admission to the Graduate Program.
     (8) The Graduate Program should be completed in 3 semesters, where the students should have completed
           30 credit hours and Masters thesis.
      (9) If a student were to loose qualifications to remain in the Undergraduate-Graduate Joint Program, he/she
           should enroll in the 8th semester to qualify for undergraduate graduation.

      [Effects of the Joint Program Seen by the University]

      (1) The Undergraduate-Graduate Joint Program can be used to recruit more of the outstanding
           undergraduate students to continue studies in the Graduate Program. In addition, having a dedicated
           Advisor for undergraduate students in their early stage, he/she will be able to get closer with advanced            research, which is expected to improve the overall quality of research.
      (2) Students can obtain Ph.D. status in their twenties, and is expected to provide a good influence to the
           undergraduate program.

      [Effects of the Joint Program on the Student Side]
      (1) A 1 year reduction in time and money can be obtained from the Bachelor-Masters Program.
      (2) Due to having dedicated Advisors assigned to undergraduate students in their early stage, he/she
           will be able to study and conduct research in a more stabilized environment.

      2. Bachelor/Masters Joint Program Policy

      Clause 1 (Objective) The objective of this clause is based on University Policy Clause 4, Clause 43, and
                   Clause 52, which defines the rules to execute the Bachelor/Masters Joint Program.

      Clause 2 (Execution Range) The Bachelor/Masters Joint Program can be selectively executed by the
                   College/School/Department of the University.

   
   Clause 3 (Entrance Qualifications) To enter the Bachelor/Masters Joint Program, the student must have
                   completed the 4th semester (i.e., 2nd year) and must have a GPA of at least 3.3/4.3 (3.0/4.0)
                   and needs a recommendation from the Department Head or School Chairman.

   
   Clause 4 (Advisor)
                   (1) After the student is granted permission to enter the Bachelor/Masters Joint Program, the
                   Department Head will consider the student¡¯s requests in selecting a dedicated Advisor for the
                   student.
                   (2) The students that have a dedicated Advisor will execute graduate level studies and research
                   with their advisors even during their undergraduate program.

   
   Clause 5 (Course Enrollment) Each semester students can enroll in up to 21 credits, where up to 6 credits
                   per semester can be graduate level coursework, and a total of up to 12 credits of graduate level
                   coursework can be taken. However, graduate courses taken during the undergraduate period
                   do not count towards the undergraduate degree requirements, but counts as graduate program
                   credit later once the student is enrolled in the Graduate Program.

   
   Clause 6 (Disqualification) After a student has entered the Bachelor/Master Joint Program until graduation,
                   the student must obtain a GPA of 3.3/4.3 (3.0/4.0) or higher each semester.

   
   Clause 7 (Graduation) Students that satisfy the graduation requirements of the University Policy Clause 51
                   must submit a Request Form for Graduation to the Office of Academic Affairs within the required
                   period, and should also submit an application for graduate admission to the Graduate College
                   within the application period.

   
   Clause 8 (Sub ordinance to University Policies) Any issues that are beyond the defined Bachelor/Masters
                   Joint Program Policy are required to follow the University Policies.

      Appending Policy
      (1) This policy becomes effective as of the beginning of the Spring semester of 2004.
